Volunteer Country Condition
Researchers
The Florence Project seeks volunteer researchers on an on-going
basis to help our legal team and pro bono attorneys represent
refugees and immigrants in detention in Florence, Eloy, and Phoenix,
Arizona. Volunteers conduct country condition research to support
individuals who are seeking political asylum or Convention Against
Torture relief based on persecution and/or torture they have faced
in their native countries. The task includes researching newspapers,
periodicals, human rights databases and other resources and
compiling reliable documentation about human rights conditions
relating to the country at issue and the individual's case. The
research can easily be conducted with access to the internet and a
printer, neither of which are easily accessible to indigent
individuals in detention. The finished product is a packet of the
country condition documents, which the Florence Project will help
the detainee file in support of his or her case.
Volunteer
requirements: only require internet access, free time to spend
researching the internet, interest in immigrant issues. No required
time-commitment or ability to travel to office.
