Our Arizona Defending Immigrants Program provides training, consultation and support to Arizona public defenders about the immigration consequences of criminal convictions and acts as a resource center on the overlap of immigration and criminal law. The Defending Immigrants Program seeks to ensure the rights of indigent immigrants are protected in both the criminal justice system and immigration system. It educates defense counsel, prosecutors, judges and other criminal justice system stakeholders about immigration law to minimize instances of misadvice, the need for post conviction relief, ineffective assistance of counsel claims and wrongful detention and deportation.
